| Today we dismantled and packed up Michael and Tammi's bed, sheets,
pillows and comforter to give to their friends. They'll be gone for
at least a year teaching and loving AIDS orphans in Kenya.
They've given all their things away but having an empty room was
especially hard on me and on Fletch, their cat. He sat in the
corner and meowed; I stood and cried. Then I went into the
bathroom, my favorite crying place, picked up a devotional book and
read:
All your children will be taught by the LORD, and they will have much peace.
Isaiah 54:13
"Never underestimate the ponderings of a
Christian parent. Never underestimate the power that comes when a
parent pleads with God on behalf of a child. Who knows how many
prayers are being answered right now because of the faithful ponderings
of a parent ten or twenty years ago? God listens to thoughtful
parents.
Praying for our children is a noble task. If what we are doing,
in this fast-paced society, is taking us away from prayer time for our
children, we're doing too much. There is nothing more special,
more precious than time that a parent spends struggling and pondering
with God on behalf of a child."
Walking with the Savior - Max Lucado
I wasn't as faithful in praying for my children as I should have
been. I wasn't as faithful in taking them to church all the
time. Still God answered my prayers. Heather is celebrating
her fifteenth wedding anniversary today and both of her children have
accepted Jesus as their Savior. Michael was not only saved as I so fervently prayed, he
and Tammi have given up all their possessions and are giving their
lives in service to Him in Kenya.
We miss them and we're crying but we are also praising and celebrating the goodness and faithfulness of God.

| From Max Lucado's In the Eye of the Storm:
Honor God and obey His commands, because this is all people must do.
Ecclesiastes 12:13
Here are some God-given, time-tested
truths that define the way you should navigate your life. Observe
them and enjoy secure passage. Ignore them and crash against the
ragged rocks of reality...:
- Love God more than you fear hell.
- Make major decisions in a cemetery.
- When no one is watching, live as if someone is.
- Succeed at home first.
- Don't spend tomorrow's money today.
- Pray twice as much as you fret.
- God has forgiven you; you'd be wise to do the same.

| I really just wanted to find out how to change the name of the book I'm
reading and Caitlin tells me I have to write something. You know
you're old when your granddaughter has to tell you how to use the
computer!
